Military to Civilian Transition (MCT)

Transitioning to civilian life can be a difficult process and last several years after leaving the Canadian Armed Forces. Some common challenges experienced during this process include loss of identity, institutional betrayal, moral injury, and cultural integration difficulties, such as working with civilians or even learning to dress like a civilian. Additionally, navigating the MCT may also be overwhelming as Veterans often face trying to rehabilitate injuries sustained from service while also meeting deadlines outlined by SISIP, VAC, and PCVRS. Research in this area has highlighted that the MCT process can have negative effects on Veterans’ well-being and in some cases, worsen mental health disorders.

Being supported by someone experienced with this process can help you stay organized and focused on the goal outcomes most important to you. Having contributed to the research knowledge in this area, Cassandra, also a Veteran of the Canadian Army herself, is passionate about helping other Veterans transition safely and successfully.
